Player Ratings: New England Revolution at FC Dallas

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This Sean Donahue and Ryan Lanigan contributed ratings for the New England Revolution’s 1-0 loss at FC Dallas.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 8 (Sean 8, Ryan 8 )
Some fantastic saves to keep the match scoreless. Defense let him down on the winning goal. (Sean) … Not much Reis could do on the goal but he did really well on a lot of other attempts from Dallas, especially on Shea in the first half. (Ryan)

Florian Lechner – Average Rating: 4.25 (Sean 3.5, Ryan 5)
Looked slow all night and Shea and Castillo seemed to be able to beat him at will. Will need to learn to position himself better to deal with speedy wingers. (Sean) … He got beat a lot throughout the night but in the end, none of them ended up being costly. (Ryan)

AJ Soares – Average Rating: 7.5 (Sean 7.5, Ryan 7.5)
Lost count of how many saving tackles Soares made. The second year defender had a fantastic performance until giving up the costly late foul. (Sean) … Would have been higher but frustration set in on that last foul. Beyond that, he was easily the best player on the field for the Revs.  (Ryan)

Stephen McCarthy – Average Rating: 6.25 (Sean 6, Ryan 6.5)
Overall a solid performance, though he was lucky to be saved by Soares after the nutmeg from Jacobson and why would the tallest played go into the wall rather than mark in the box? (Sean) … When the ball was at his feet, he mostly made the right decisions, nothing too costly. Have to wonder about his placement in the wall. (Ryan)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 6 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 6.5)
Had some nice runs forward, though the end result wasn’t always there, and was mostly solid defensively. A few too many poor passes. (Sean) … Tierney did well to get forward at times and had a couple of good services. Best part of all is that he has been beyond sound defensively. (Ryan)

Kelyn Rowe – Average Rating: 4.75 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 5)
Attempted too many speculative long shots and was caught on the ball multiple times leading to turnovers. (Sean) … Not his best performance of the season, sometimes wasting opportunities with long shots. (Ryan)

Clyde Simms – Average: 6 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 6.5)
Effort was there all game as Simms was all over the pitch, but passing wasn’t as crisp as in LA. (Sean) … Surprised to see Simms the guy that came out early. He had more giveaways this game than he has all season. (Ryan)

Sharlie Joseph – Average Rating: 4 (Sean 4, Ryan 4)
Looked a step slow, as did most of the team, and lost his man on the winning goal. (Sean) … He didn’t have the greatest game as is, and then his guy buried the game-winning goal. (Ryan)

Lee Nguyen – Average Rating: 5 (Sean 5, Ryan 5)
Struggled to get the ball going forward and often tried to do too much before losing the ball. (Sean) … He seemed to be frustrated in the first half and then almost disinterested in the second half. (Ryan)

Ryan Guy – Average Rating: 4.75 (Sean 4, Ryan 5.5)
Poor performance by Guy after a great showing in LA. Failed to find space going forward or create any opportunities. Caught offside ending one attack. (Sean) … Nothing special this time, but he worked hard for a full 90. (Ryan)

Saer Sene – Average Rating: 4.5 (Sean 4, Ryan 5)
Looked slow all game and too easily pushed off the ball minus one decent shot. (Sean) … Seemed exhausted about 10 minutes in. He seemed to be in the wrong spot at the wrong times. (Ryan)

(sub) Fernando Cardenas – Average Rating: 5.25 (Sean 4.5, Ryan 6)
Skied a shot well high of the net and struggled to make much of an impact. (Sean) … He seemed to play better with Moreno…I’m serious. (Ryan)

(sub) Jose Moreno5.75 (Sean 5.5, Ryan 6)
Powerful shot and good effort put in after entering off the bench. (Sean) … Uhm…did it seem like he actually cared? It did. And he can rip the ball. (Ryan)

(sub) Jeremiah White – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact. (Sean)
