Revs Reserves Drop 4-2 loss in Philly

Kenny Mansally scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Union reserves beat the Revolution reserves 4-2 at Chester Park, Penn. on Monday.

Mansally’s 19th and 91st minute strikes sandwiched the goals scored by Josue Martinez (2), Antoine Hoppenot and Christhian Hernandez.

The Gambian first appeared on the scoresheet before the 20th minute when he converted a penalty after Union keeper Chase Harrison brought down Blake Brettschneider in the box.

But the lead didn’t last long. Two minutes later, Hoppenot fired a shot on frame that Bobby Shuttleworth failed to collect before Martinez buried the rebound to make it a one-all game in the 22nd minute.

Minutes later, Hoppenot would not be denied when went one on one with Shuttleworth before depositing it into the New England net for the Union lead.

The hosts added to their lead after the hour courtesy of Hernandez, who whipped a shot that eluded Shuttleworth in the 62nd minute. Martinez added his second goal of the game three minutes later when a collected a lazy back pass, beat the D and buried it in the 65th minute.

Mansally cut the lead in half a minute into stoppage time, but it was too little, too late by then as the Revolution reserves dropped their first game of the 2012 campaign.

The Revolution reserves return to action on Saturday, when they face D.C. United at 6:30pm at Gillette Stadium.
