New England Soccer Today

Jank’d!

After failing to meet the heightened expectations that often accompany former European stars, the oft-injured, underachieving Edgaras Jankauskas was released by the Revolution today.

Jankausus, who was signed to a hefty contract  back in July of 2009, then re-signed again this past offseason to the tune of a $240,000 salary, never justified the six-figure sum he commanded during his stay in New England.

In his 14 matches with the local XI, the Lituanian striker’s offensive output was limited to a pair goals and an assist. And when he wasn’t under performing on the pitch, the former Porto striker was relegated to the sidelines after sustaining a set of injuries, which limited him to only four appearances – all coming as a substitute – this season.

With the release of Jankauskas,  the Revolution currently hold two open roster spots. But, with only four games regular season games remaining, and no shot at the playoffs, it would not be surprising if the club finishes the season without filling those vacancies.
