Player Ratings: New England Revolution vs. Real Salt Lake

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Brian O’Connell and Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the Revs’ 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Distribution was better this week, but wasn’t spectacular by any stretch.  (Brian) … Could’ve come off his line to prevent Salt Lake’s first goal, nothing he could do on the second.  Did well under pressure on a few back passes, but quiet game otherwise. (Sean)

Seth Sinovic – Average Rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Sean 5)
Experienced some turbulence outside of the defending third; otherwise did a decent job on the left (Brian) … Solid defensively, but a lot of turnovers when he got involved in the offense. (Sean)

Emmanuel Osei – Average Rating: 3.5 (Brian 3, Sean 4)
Far too much freelancing; was clearly beaten on the Borchers goal. (Brian) … Poor marking on the first set piece and a few shaky moments against Espindola. (Sean)

Darrius Barnes – Average Rating: 5.5 (Brian 5, Sean 6)
Had a quiet game, but held his own against Beckerman and Saborio. (Brian) … Good performance. Did well covering for Tierney when he was out of position or beat. (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 6, Sean 4)
Did well to push up and join the attack. Passed well and tracked back when necessary. (Brian) … Struggled against Espindola early on and was caught forward a few times. (Sean)

Kenny Mansally – Average Rating: 6.25 (Brian 6.5, Sean 6)
Confident, passed well, and greatly aided the attack, which kept Revs balanced throughout the game. (Brian) … Some great runs going forward. Has really made the starting spot at left midfield his. (Sean)

Pat Phelan – Average Rating: 7.5 (Brian, 7.5, Sean 7.5)
The match of his career- decisive, eager to advance, and a physical presence in the middle. (Brian) … His best performance of the season. Created a lot of turnovers and made several hard, but fair challenges to win the ball for the Revs. His high pressure, especially early in the match, really aided the Revs attack. (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average Rating:  6.75 (Brian 7, Sean 6.5)
Crisp passing, anchored the midfield extremely well. All-around impressive effort. (Brian) … Along with Phelan, did a good job patrolling the midfield and helping the Revs keep possession against one of the best teams in the league.  (Sean)

Sainey Nyassi – Average Rating: 6.75 (Brian 7, Sean 6.5)
A one-man attack – took good shots, maneuvered well in the attacking third, and provided excellent service.  (Brian) … Some excellent runs down the right flank and a good goal, but should’ve been more unselfish on his 20th minute chance. (Sean)

Marko Perovic – Average Rating: 6 (Brian 6, Sean 6)
Found teammates early with precise passing, but was overshadowed by the Gambians. (Brian) … Dangerous set pieces and some impressive creativity, especially in setting up Mansally for a run on the left flank in the second half. Final pass was lacking in a few situations.  (Sean)

Ilija Stolica – Average Rating: 5.5 (Brian 5.5, Sean 5.5)
Another silent, yet solid game up top; good on defense as well. (Brian)  … Looked good early, but his contributions faded as the match went on. (Sean)

(Sub) Kheli Dube – Average Rating: 6.25 (Brian 6.5, Sean 6)
parked the offense, combined well with Gambians. Could’ve been a game-changer had he started. (Brian) … Provided a spark of the bench and made since nice passes in tight spaces to set up Nyassi for a few chances (Sean)

(Sub) Jason Griffiths – Average Rating: 4 (Brian 4, Sean 4)
Added little to the midfield; missing completely during crunch time.  (Brian) … Failed to make an impact on the game. (Sean)
