Hydra Overtake Azul 2-1

CFC Azul continued to struggle in the month of June, losing 2-1 to the Worcester Hydra Saturday night, 2-1.

The Hydra opened up the scoring early in the first half when leading scorer Alencar Junior netted a goal in the 20th minute. Junior took a pass from Michael Bustamante and found himself one-on-one with Azul goalie Matt Sangeloty. Junior beat Sangeloty low for his team-leading 5th goal.

Azul was able to respond relatively quickly, even with leading scorer Ryan Kinne unavailable due to reserve league duty with the New England Revolution.

Azul midfield Conor Doyle hit a free kick from 30 yards off right into the six yard box. Defender Eddie Floyd met the ball with his head and beat Hydra goalie Oliver Blum to knot the game at one.

The Hydra were able to take the lead again – and this time for good. Halftime sub Derek McCaffrey took a service from Bruno Bonicontro and beat Sangeloty to get the game-winner.

CFC Azul will now travel to play Boston Victory on Wednesday, June 13 at Muscato Stadium in Easton, Mass.

Worcester’s next match will be Sunday, June 17 when they host Ottawa at Foley Stadium.
