According to multiple reports, three-time Honduran goalscoring champion Jerry Bengtson is on the verge of signing a four-year deal with the Revolution.

The 25-year-old striker has scored 26 goals in 54 appearances for C.D. Motagua in the last two seasons. The club’s official site reported on Monday that Bengtson is scheduled to arrive in Foxboro on Tuesday for his physical. The site also reported that the deal is for four years, while another is reporting that the Revolution will acquire the striker on a loan deal.

“Bengtson will be traveling tomorrow (Tuesday) to undergo a medical test to then join his new team, the New England Revolution of MLS,” an unidentified Motagua owner said in the report, according to an online translation service. “The three-time champion of goals will be linked by four seasons.”

When reached for comment, a Revolution spokesperson advised on Monday evening that the team has received verbal commitments from two mid-season targets, but has not received any signed documents back from either one as of yet.  The identity of either target was not disclosed.

Bengtson, who’s listed at 6-2, 160lbs., has put together a remarkably productive scoring rate during his six-year career in the Honduran first division. In 135 games, he’s scored 62 goals for a strike rate of 0.46 goals/game.

At the international level, Bengston has been capped 22 times and has scored eight goals. According to the Motagua site, Bengtson will be a part of the Honduran Olympic Team for the Summer Olympics, which will play its first Group D match against Morocco on Jul. 26.
