Arboleda Helps PC Earn 1-1 Draw at Columbia

Providence midfielder Wilder Arboleda equalized in the 74rd minute to help his side earn a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Columbia on Tuesday at the Columbia Soccer Complex in New York, N.Y.

Arboleda’s strike helped the Friars dig out of the deficit created by Columbia midfielder Nick Scott’s 15th minute goal. Providence keeper Keasel Broome made two stops while his couterpart Michael Attal denied the Friars nine times on the evening.

The draw snapped Providence’s three-game losing skid and put their record at 2-7-2 (0-3-0 Big East). Columbia’s record went to 3-6-1 (1-1-0 Ivy League).

The Lions wasted little time settling in when Kofi Agyapong  played a ball through the box to Scott, who redirected it through for the opening goal.

Providence, which outshot Columbia 18-6, found the back of the net when Marcos Ugarte sent a short pass to Arbodela, who scored at the near post 16 minutes before regulation expired.

Two overtimes failed to separate the sides, even after Attal was forced to make his ninth and final save in the second OT.

Providence returns home on Saturday at 1pm for a conference clash with Pittsburgh at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
