Elon F Thomas Among 4 Added in Supplemental Draft

Elon’s touted striker Chris Thomas was among four college prospects selected by the New England Revolution in Tuesday’s MLS Supplemental Draft, which was held via conference call.

Thomas, who scored a nation-best 23 goals in 2012, was taken in the second round (23rd overall), only days after many draft experts predicted him to be taken in last Thursday’s SuperDraft.

In addition to Thomas, Connecticut defender Jossimar Sanchez was taken in the first round (fourth overall), while Old Dominion defender Alex De John was taken in the third round (42nd overall). Elon midfielder Gabe Latigue, who was selected in the fourth round (61st overall) was the Revolution’s final pick.

Sanchez, 21, played in 74 games for the Huskies, scoring two goals and adding an assist during his four years in Storrs. After three years as a central midfielder, Sanchez moved back to center back in his senior season.

Thomas, 22, scored 53 goals and collected 10 assists in 81 games at Elon. His 23 goals last season was good enough for him to be named a Herman Trophy Semifinalist. Additionally, he is a two-time Southern Conference player of the year (2010, 2012) and earned 2012 first-team All-South Region honors.

De John, 21, played 66 games for the Monarchs in his college career. He scored two goals and added one assist during his time in Norfolk.

Latigue, 22, scored 15 goals and chipped in 17 assists in 82 games for the Phoenix, where he played alongside Thomas. In 2012, he scored five goals and collected six assists, and was named 2012 Southern Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
