Kyah Simon, the Boston Breakers’ reigning scoring champ, will be back for a second season.

The Australian international, who led the club with 12 goals in 2012, signed a new deal with the club last week.

“I had a great experience last season, and everyone at the club as well as my host family helped me feel right at home,” Simon said in a statement. “I am pleased that I will get the chance to come back to Boston again and help the club be successful on and off the field.”

Simon originally signed with the club in January 2012, and went on to play a leading role in the Breakers’ success last season. Her 12 goals – the second-highest total in WPSL Elite behind Western New York’s Adriana (13)- steered the club to a first place finish (11-3-0, 33 points).

With Simon as their number 9, the Breakers scored a 28 goals as a team, only one behind Western New York for the league lead.

The 21-year-old striker has 29 caps with the Australian Women’s National Team and has scored seven goals for the Matildas.

“I’m excited about having Kyah back and for her to get the opportunity to play against the best in the world,” Boston Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said in a statement. “She’s shown that she’s one of the best forwards in the world.”

In addition to Simon, the Breakers also welcomed back their second-leading scorer by selecting forward Schoefer in last week’s NWSL Supplemental Draft.

Schoepfer scored seven goals in 12 games for the Breakers last season. The Breakers also brought back center half Bianca D’Agostino (13 games, 1 goal) and midfielder Jessica Luscinski (13 games, 1 goal).

Boston rounded out the Supplemental Draft draft by taking midfielder Joanna Lohman, former Chicago Red Stars and University of Oklahoma defender Lauren Alkek, and former University of Maryland forward Jasmyne Spencer.
