Rhinos Wrap: Goals Hard to Come By Over Weekend

The first win of the 2013 season continues to elude the Rochester Rhinos (0-3-1, 1 point), who recorded a draw and a loss over the weekend.

Matt Horth started up top for the Rhinos against the Charlotte Eagles in Friday’s 0-0 draw. Horth went 81 minutes, while Tyler Polak and Gabe Latigue started at left back and on the right side of the midfield, respectively.

The 64th minute saw Latigue serve a dangerous free kick from 40 yards that Horth put on frame before it was saved by Eagles keeper Eric Reed.

On Saturday, Latigue started on the opposite side of the midfield in 4-1 loss to the Richmond Kickers, who are affiliated with D.C. United. Blake Brettschneider moved over to the right side of the midfield. A pair of second half red cards to George Kyriasis and Mike Callahan doomed Rochester to finish with nine men.

Ex-Rev Luke Vercollone started in the central midfield for the Kickers.

Through the first four games of the season, Bilal Duckett leads all Revolution loanees in minutes played (271), followed by Latigue (246). All but Horth have played in each of the club’s four games, while Brettschneider has scored one of the team’s two goals this season.

The Rhinos return to action on Saturday when they head to City Island, Pa. to face the Harrisburg City Islanders at 7:00pm.
