No Love for Locals? Revs Not Polling Well for ASG

The New England Revolution might want to a hire some campaign managers for their All-Star nominees this summer.

One week into fan voting for the MLS All-Star Game, no Revolution player has earned enough votes through Jun. 17 to be listed among the league’s top selections.  Revolution nominees Diego Fagundez and Bobby Shuttleworth are ranked inside the top 12 on the latest MLS Castrol Index, but neither has garnered the sufficient number of votes to earn serious consideration at their respective positions.

Fagundez, who is ranked 10th on the Index, currently has a club-high five goals to go along with three assists. However, the 18-year-old Homegrown Player not among the top 7 midfielders in the fan vote.

Shuttleworth is ranked 12th on the Index, and is tied for the league lead in clean sheets with Sporting K.C. keeper Jimmy Nielsen. The 26-year-old keeper has also helped the Revolution tie K.C. for the best goals against average (0.86) in MLS. Yet, he has not received enough votes to earn a top 5 spot at goalkeeper.

The remaining four Revolution All-Star nominees are ranked on the Index as follows: Jose Goncalves (55th), Lee Nguyen (111th), Andrew Farrell (157th), and Kelyn Rowe (198th).

Fans can vote for the All-Star First XI through Monday, July 2 at 3 p.m. ET online HERE or by sending a player’s last name via text message to 22442. Twitter voting will occur Jun. 20-21. The 10 players with the highest combined votes from these three voting methods will be named to the All-Star Fan XI.

The 11th player – a forward – on the Fan XI will be decided after the general voting window closes on July 2, as part of the AT&T MLS All-Star ‘In the Game’ Challenge that will take place from July 3-July 10.
