FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Revolution re-signed defender/midfielder Chris Tierney, the team announced on Monday. Per club policy, further terms of the deal were not released. Tierney is the second-longest tenured player on the club, behind goalkeeper Matt Reis.

Tierney, who turned 27 this past January, is in his sixth season and has played his entire MLS career with the Revolution after being drafted 13th overall in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. The Wellesley (Mass.)-native played four years of soccer at the University of Virginia after playing high school at Nobles & Greenough in Dedham.

“Chris is a very versatile player and gives us a lot of options,” Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “He is a great leader on and off the field, and has been one of our most consistent and productive players the last few seasons, so we’re very pleased he’s decided to sign a new contract to remain in New England.”

Tierney has four assists in 18 appearances this season which is tied for third on the team with Diego Fagundez, trailing Lee Nguyen (5) and Kelyn Rowe (6). Tierney notched a career-high five assists last season.

For his career, he has made 109 starts and 120 total appearances for New England and ranks eighth in club history in assists (20) and third in game-winning assists (9).
