The speculation has been growing recently over the futures of New England Revolution strikers Juan Agudelo and Jerry Bengtson with the club. Agudelo, a free agent at the end of the season, has shown immense talent for a 20 year old striker, undoubtedly catching the eyes of some scouts across the Atlantic. Bengtson, meanwhile, has never lived up to the expectations his Designated Player tag brought and recently hasn’t even made the game day 18, fueling conjecture the Honduran International is on the way out.

Now Spanish sports daily Marca is reporting Aguedelo has drawn interest from La Liga’s Valencia CF, as well as Barclays Premier League side Stoke City. SoccerByIves is even reporting Agudelo has signed a pre-contract agreement with Stoke. Bengtson, meanwhile, has been linked to Greek Super League club Panionios, according to Honduran newspaper La Tribuna.

While a SoccerByIves report today has Agudelo signing a pre-contract agreement with Stoke — which, if confirmed, would end all speculation — a Marca report also claims Valencia President Amadeo Salvo has been in touch with the Revolution striker. Valencia recently lost star forward Roberto Soldado to Tottenham Hotspur, and while the club is unlikely to look at Agudelo as a direct replacement, they are surely in the market for strikers. The Colombian born attacker, who has five goals in 11 games this season (two for Chivas USA, three for the Revolution) could be had on a free transfer at the end of the MLS season, but would require a transfer fee if a team were to make a move this summer.

Bengtson’s time at the Revolution appears to be quickly running out, as the Honduran International continues to be left out of the squad, even with Agudelo currently sidelined with a right knee sprain.  Bengtson has scored just once in 13 MLS games this season and just three times in 26 career MLS games, but has drawn interest from Panionios, according to a report in La Tribuna. If true, the Revolution may be wise to get any return while they can for the striker, who appears unlikely to suit up anytime soon for the club, based on his absence from the game day roster in recent weeks.
