It turns out that there’s no place like home for Charlie Davies.

According to a report on Soccer by Ives, the New England Revolution have agreed to a deal with Randers FC that will bring the Boston College product back to the Bay State. The deal is expected to be announced as early as Friday,  according to the report. Fox Soccer’s Kyle McCarthy reported via Twitter that it is a loan deal, and that “modest compensation” will be exchanged between the Revolution and D.C. United, Davies’ former MLS club.

The 27-year-old striker, who attended Boston College between 2004-06, is coming off a disappointing stint in the Danish SuperLiga. He failed to find the back of the net in 23 appearances, and did little to solidify his spot on the roster.

Despite his unimpressive form, he is expected to help bolster an attack that has sorely missed injured striker Juan Agudelo, who is reportedly looking to move to Stoke City either before the close of the European window or following the conclusion of his contract, which expires on Dec. 31.

After leaving B.C. in 2007 following his junior year, Davies bypassed the MLS SuperDraft to try his hand at European football. He signed on with Swedish club Hammarby IF, where he scored 23 goals in 56 appearances before he joined French-based Socheaux FC.

Along with success at the club level, Davies was turning into an intriguing prospect with the U.S. Men’s National Team.

During the U.S.’s improbable Confederations Cup run in 2009, he helped spearhead the attack, and set up Jozy Altidore’s goal vs. Spain in the semifinal. Later that summer, he scored against Mexico at the Azteca. At the time, the future seemed bright for the former Boston College Eagle.

But on Oct. 13, 2009, he was involved in a serious car accident in Arlington, Va. in which a fellow passenger was killed. Davies suffered several broken bones and underwent months of recovery in the hopes of returning to fitness prior to the 2010 World Cup.

Those efforts, though, weren’t enough to make the U.S. roster in South Africa, and he wouldn’t return to the pitch until December 2010.

Shortly thereafter, Davies joined D.C. United for the 2011 season and scored 11 goals in 26 games. He re-joined Socheaux shortly after the MLS season, before he was signed by Randers in 2012.
