The New England Revolution announced Thursday that they have acquired striker Charlie Davies on a permanent basis on a free transfer from Denmark’s Randers FC. Davies spent the last couple of months of last season with the Revolution on a loan from Randers FC. Per Revolution team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Davies, a Manchester, NH native, joined the Revolution in early August 2013 and made four appearances — all as a substitute — in his time on loan. The 27-year-old former U.S. Men’s National Team player didn’t register any points for the Revolution in limited minutes last season.

“We’re pleased that Charlie will be re-joining us and that we were able to find a way to make it work with MLS and Randers,” General Manager Michael Burns said in a team release. “Charlie came in last summer and showed us a lot of good things, and we’re looking forward to seeing him integrated into the squad more in 2014.”

Davies was an All-American at Boston College and found success on various levels of the U.S. Men’s National Team, including the senior national team, but a horrific car accident in October of 2009 resulted in several broken bones and took months of recovery. Davies made his return in 2011 when he was loaned to MLS with D.C. United. After scoring 11 goals for D.C. United, Davies returned to French side Sochaux after his MLS campaign before moving to Randers in 2012.

The Revolution roster now stands at 21 players, with Davies joining Jerry Bengtson, Dimitry Imbongo and Saer Sene as strikers on the team.
