NPSL newcomer Greater Lowell United FC will kick off its inaugural season at 7pm on May 10 when they host the defending conference champion Brooklyn Italians at Cawley Stadium.

The Lowell (Mass.)-based XI, which held tryouts throughout the winter in preparation for its debut, will play in the newly-renamed North Atlantic Conference of the Northeast Region of the 78-member league. The Conference features seven clubs, including regional rivals like the Rhode Island Reds, Seacoast United Mariners and Seacoast United Phantoms.

Greater Lowell United will be guided by former MLS first overall pick Jason Moore, who was tabbed as head coach in December.

“I believe that we are on the cusp of something special with Greater Lowell United,” Moore said in a team release at the time. “I’m excited to be able to use my skills in player development and leverage my experience as a professional player to help GLUFC win on the pitch and place players in college programs and with professional clubs.

“I’m also looking forward to experiencing the fantastic soccer atmosphere I know the people in the Lowell area will provide.”
