Revs Loan Smith to Rochester

Revolution winger Donnie Smith became the fourth player loaned to the Rochester Rhinos on Wednesday, joining fellow MLS teammates Luis Soffner, Alec Sundly and Jossimar Sanchez on the USL-PRO side.

Smith, 23, has two career MLS starts to his credit, the most recent coming against Philadelphia on Mar. 15. A midfielder by trade, Smith also spent time at left back during the 2014 preseason while Chris Tierney recovered from a foot injury. He played in each of the club’s seven preseason games, and collected an assist in a Feb. 4 contest vs. Philadelphia.

With Smith en route to Rochester, the Revolution have now reached the four-player loan allotment contained in its affiliation deal with the USL-PRO side, though the local XI can loan additional players as it sees fit. Additionally, any of the four can be recalled by the Revolution at any time.

Last year, the Revolution loaned defender Bilal Duckett, midfielder Gabe Latigue, defender Tyler Polak and forward Matt Horth to the Rhinos. None of the four are currently in MLS.
