Katie Schoepfer and Courtney Jones both scored to send the Boston Breakers to a 2-0 win over the Washington Spirit on Wednesday at Harvard Stadium.

Schoepfer opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, while Jones joined her on the scoresheet immediately after with a goal in the 43rd minute. Alyssa Naeher made a pair of saves to give the Breakers their  first clean sheet of the season.

With the win, the Breakers boosted their record to 3-8-0, while the Spirt’s mark dropped to 6-5-1.

The Breakers were without former Player of the Week Lianne Sanderson, who was called up by England for its friendly vs. Ukraine this week. Even so, the hosts managed to get on the board before the break.

Schoepfer grabbed cross from Mollie Pathman and sent it past Chantel Jones to put the Breakers on the board in the 42nd minute.

Less than two minutes later, Nkem Ezurike attempted to scribble her name on the scoresheet, but was initially denied by Jones. But the rebound fell to her fellow namesake, as Courtney Jones tapped it through to make it a two-goal game going into the half.

Spirt coach Mark Parsons attempted to inject some life into the attack when he brought on Jodie Taylor for the second half. Taylor bagged a brace against the Breakers last week, and Parsons was hoping for a repeat performance on Wednesday.

But that idea never came to fruition. Though she may have found the back of the net before the break, the assistant referee ruled her offside.

The Breakers return to action on Jun. 19 when they’ll host the Seattle Reign at Harvard Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
