WPSL: Breakers Academy Hands Mutiny Humbling Loss

McKenzie Meehan and Stephanie McCaffrey both bagged braces to give the Boston Breakers Academy a comphrehensive 5-1 victory over the New England Mutiny on Monday at North Andover High School.

Meehan collected her goals in the 9th and 72nd minutes, while McCaffrey pocketed a pair in the 11th and 83rd minutes. Samantha Mewis added one of her own in the 56th minute. Tori Sousa scored the lone Mutiny goal in the 77th minute to deny the Academy of the clean sheet.

The match was called early due to stormy conditions near North Andover.

The 5-1 loss marked the first time in club history that the Mutiny surrended five or more goals twice in the same season. They were handed a 5-2 loss by the Boston Breakers Reserves on Jul. 2.

At 3-4-2, the Mutiny will look to avoid finishing below .500 for the first time in club history on Saturday when they take on Boston Aztec FC at East Longmeadow High School. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.

The Academy, which sit two points behind the first-place  Boston Breakers Reserves in the New England division, will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, as well, for its home finale at North Andover High School, where they’ll meet the Seacoast United Mariners at 7:00pm.
