Revs Add Dutch Striker Castillion

It was another week, another new forward for the Revolution on Monday after the club acquired Dutch international Geoffrey Castillion via free transfer.

Castillion, a 6-3, 170 lbs. striker, comes to Foxborough following a recent stint with Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, where he scored twice in nine appearances across league and tournament competition in 2014. The 23-year-old forward will be officially added to the roster upon receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificiate.

“Geoffrey is a big, strong target forward with several years of experience in the Dutch first division,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a club release on Monday. “He will add a different dynamic to our attack and also give us more options up front. Once he finalizes the immigration process, we’re looking forward to getting him right into training.”

Castillion is a product of the Ajax Youth Academy, which is considered one of the best in the world at developing players. Following his time in the famed academy, the big forward made his first-team debut in March 2011.

He was subsequently loaned to Eredivisie sides RKC Waalwijk (2011-12) and Heracles Almelo (2012-13). Between the two sides, he he scored 11 goals in 66 total appearances.

The Dutch international is the third different striker the Revolution have acquired over the last two weeks. On Aug. 12, the club sent Saer Sene to New York for Andre Akpan. Days later, Tony Taylor joined the club following a weighted lottery for the former U.S. U-23 star on Aug. 18.

Castillion will wear number 39.
