Lee Nguyen’s two-goal performance against the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium last Thursday was good enough to earn the Revolution midfielder Player of the Week honors for Week 33.

Nguyen bagged his first goal in the 65th minute to level the match after Houston went into halftime with a one-goal lead. His second goal in the 87th minute allowed the Revolution to get the win, which clinched a top-3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, Nguyen’s first strike is up for Goal of the Week on mlssoccer.com.

The 28-year-old midfielder has 17 goals and five assists to his credit this season, including a league-best eight game-winners. His 17 goals leads the league among all pure midfielders, and is also tops for American-born MLS players.

Nguyen has been particularly lethal during the second half of the season. Over the course of the last 12 games, the creative midfielder has 11 goals and four assists, including three multiple-goal games.

Nguyen is one goal shy of the 18 scored by Raul Diaz Arce in 1998 for the second-highest regular season goal total in Revolution history. Taylor Twellman set the club record in 2002 when he scored 23.

The Revolution midfielder will attempt to match Diaz Arce’s haul in Saturday’s regular season finale against Toronto FC. Prior to the match, team awards will be issued, with Nguyen the favorite to win team MVP honors.
