Revolution assistant coach Tom Soehn will be back with the club after reportedly turning down an offer to take the technical director’s position with the New York Red Bulls.

According to BigAppleSoccer.com, Soehn was one of four candidates on the Red Bulls’ radar after Andy Roxburgh stepped down as technical director last week. The Revolution assistant was offered a one-year contract, but declined it.

The Red Bulls will reportedly name Ali Curtis as technical director on Monday. Curtis, 36, won the 1999 MAC Hermann Trophy as the best collegiate player before spending stints with the now-defunct Tampa Bay Mutiny, D.C. United and the Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas). He was a teammate of current Revolution coach Jay Heaps at Duke.

Soehn joined the Revolution coaching staff in January, succeeding longtime assistant Jay Miller. He briefly took the helm after Heaps was suspended for the club’s Apr. 12 match vs. Houston. Soehn’s son, T.J., is a member of the Revolution U-18 squad.

Prior to his arrival, Soehn served as sporting director for the Vancouver Whitecaps from 2010-2012.
