Diego Fagundez bolstered his case to make coach Fabian Coito’s final South American Youth Championship roster by scoring for the Uruguay U-20s in a 3-0 win over local side Canelones.

Fagundez scored the third goal in the 47th minute of the second 60-minute scrimmage against Canelones at Martinez Monegal. Gaston Pereiro and Franco Acosta joined Fagundez on the scoresheet in the final scheduled scrimmage ahead of the tournament.

The Revolution midfielder’s goal was his second of the week during the squad’s series of scrimmages. He scored and collected two assists against Colonia in a 3-0 win on Sunday.

Coito is expected to announce his final 23-man roster for the South American Youth Championship, which will run from Jan. 14 through Feb. 7, next week.

Should Fagundez make the roster and see the field for the U-20s during the tournament, he would no longer be eligible to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team since he is not currently a U.S. citizen.
