Revs Target Héldon Scores in AFCON Opener

Heldon-10

Rumored Revolution target Héldon put together a convincing showcase in Cape Verde’s 1-1 draw to Tunisia in their opening match of the African Cup of Nations tournament.

After Ali Moncer put Tunisia on top in the 70th minute, Héldon scored the equalizer from the spot in the 77th minute after he beat center back Ben Youssef, who resorted to fouling him inside the box.

The 26-year-old midfielder started on the right side of the midfield for the Blue Sharks, and went the entire 90. He was active throughout, and showed the pace and dribbling abilities that spurred the Revolution’s interest in him.

He nearly up the opening score in the 56th minute when he crossed for Kuca, who punched it past keeper Aymen Mathlouthi before it was cleared off the line at the last moment by Ben Youssef. In the 40th minute, he earned a dangerous free kick after he received a pass from Babanco and was fouled along the edge of the box.

Cape Verde will return to action on Thursday when they face the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Later this week, members of the Revolution front office will travel to Lisbon to meet with Sporting officials to discuss the partnership they commenced last October. The availability of Héldon, who has only played in two league matches for the Leões this season, is expected to be a topic of discussion. Sporting currently sits in fourth on the Portuguese Liga table with 33 points.
