The Revolution’s defensive depth will certainly be tested in Saturday’s season opener as fullback Kevin Alston was listed as out due to a right hamstring strain.

Alston originally suffered the injury early in the second half of the Revolution’s 2-0 loss to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium last Sunday. He was spelled by fellow veteran defender Darrius Barnes, who entered the match for Alston in the 59th minute.

The starting right fullback was shelved by hamstring injuries on separate occasions during the 2014 season, and limited him to 11 games during the regular season.

With Alston out, the Revolution will be missing two of last week’s starting defenders. Center back Jose Goncalves was red carded in the 67th minute of last weekend’s match, and will serve the automatic one-game suspension on Saturday.

Jeremy Hall could serve as Alston’s replacement on the right, while Barnes may get his first start at center back since 2012 in Goncalves’ place.

Midfielders Jermaine Jones (sport hernia surgery), Donnie Smith (left groin surgery) and Teal Bunbury (right shoulder sprain) all remain listed as out.
