A day after clinching the Power 5 division crown, the playoff-bound New England Mutiny closed out the regular season on a high note with a 4-0 win over the Buxmont Torch on Sunday at East Longmeadow High School in East Longmeadow, Mass.

Kate Howarth opened the scoring in the 36th to give the hosts the lead going into the break. The Mutiny piled it on in the second half thanks to goals from Brittany Moreau, Tori Sousa and Megan Cunningham.

With the victory, the Mutiny concluded their regular season campaign with 21 points (7-1-0), winning their last four matches.

“I have never coached a more balanced group of kids from front to back than this group here,” Mutiny head coach Joe Abele told MassLive.com after the match. “No matter who starts, who comes off the bench, it’s the same level of intensity, the same level of professionalism and the same level of technical ability.

The Mutiny will face the Seacoast United Phantoms during the East region semifinals this weekend. The winner of that match will face the winner of the semifinal contest between the Boston Breakers Reserves and the Mid-Atlantic Division champion.
