UConn Product Larin wins MLS ROY

Larin-1

University of Connecticut alum Cyle Larin, who was selected by Orlando City SC with the first overall pick in January, was named 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old forward set the rookie goalscoring record with 17 tallies, and became the first MLS rookie to net two hat tricks. Larin scored 23 goals and collected six assists at UConn from 2013-14.

Although Larin was a major part of the Lions attack, an international call-up from Canada kept him from returning to the region when Orlando City made its lone stop of the season in Foxborough, Mass. on Sept. 5.

The award was voted on by MLS club management, media, and MLS players. Below is a breakdown of the voting results:

Rookie % of Club Votes % of Media Votes % of Player Votes Weighted Total
Cyle Larin (ORL) 96.38 97.18 82.39 275.95
Fatai Alashe (SJ) 0 2.78 3.98 6.75
