After making a slew of changes during the offseason, the Boston Breakers decided to stay the course with a major piece of their offense by re-signing forward Stephanie McCaffrey on Monday.

McCaffrey, who was selected fifth overall by Chicago before she was sent to Boston during a draft day trade in January, scored three goals and collected a team-high three assists in 19 games for the Breakers in 2015.

“I am delighted to be re-signing Stephanie,” Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said in a team release on Monday. “We fought hard to get her in the draft because we knew what her capabilities and upside were, and she showed that in her rookie year in the NWSL, and now is showing at the national level. In my opinion, she is going to be one of the top attacking threats in this league, and I’m glad she will be doing it in a Breakers jersey.”

Following the 2015 NWSL season – a year in which she was named the club’s Rookie of the Year – McCaffrey was called up by the U.S. Women’s National Team for the final four games of their Victory Tour, which wraps up in December.

Prior to her NWSL career, the 22-year-old Winchester, Mass. native starred at Boston College, where she scored 32 goals and collected 90 points during her four years at Chestnut Hill.
