Cameron Starts at Midfield in Wild Win for Stoke

It’s fair to say that Geoff Cameron is nearing his normal self after he started in the central midfield to help Stoke City stake a wild 4-3 win over Everton on Monday at Goodison Park.
Cameron, who recently returned from a hamstring knock to help the Potters pick up a clean sheet against Manchester United on Boxing Day, went 78 minutes in Monday’s affair before he was spelled by Jonathan Walters. He was partnered alongside Glenn Whelan in the defensive midfield, a position he initially played when he was drafted by the Houston Dynamo out of the University of Rhode Island in 2008.
“These types of games can be difficult over the Christmas period because they come around in quick succession,” Stoke manager Mark Hughes said to Stoke City Player following the match. “I thought we played really well today and found ourselves behind in a game where we didn’t really gift them too many opportunities.”
Xherdan Shaqiri scored the opening goal in 16th minute to give Stoke the early advantage, but Romelu Lukaku answered in the 22nd minute for Everton. Shaqiri scored again in the 45th minute to give his side the edge going into the break.
Following the interval, Lukaku netted another equalizer to make it two-all in the 60th minute while Gerard Deulofeu gave the Toffees their first lead in the 70th minute. But Stoke pulled even on a Mato Joselu tally in the 80th minute, then jumped ahead once and for all in stoppage time thanks to a Marko Arnautovic penalty strike.
With the win, the Potters advanced to ninth place on 29 points while Everton remained on 26 points, good for 11th on the EPL table.
Cameron and his Stoke City teammates will return to action on Saturday when they face West Brom (23 points) at The Hawthorns.
