Cameron Sent Off in Loss to West Brom

It was a tale of two weekends for Attleboro, Mass. native Geoff Cameron on Saturday.

A week after aiding Stoke City in its Boxing Day shutout over Manchester United, Cameron was issued his first red card of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Cameron was given his marching orders in the 83rd minute after fouling West Brom’s Claudio Yacob.

“We weren’t too happy with the lad Yacob because he’s gone down pretty easily,” Stoke manager Mark Hughes told the club’s official website following the match. “That’s three players we’ve had sent off against Albion this season, and all were very harsh in my opinion.”

The incident which came only moments after Jonathan Walters scored an 81st minute equalizer, canceling the advantage that Stephane Sessegnon gave West Brom in the 60th minute.

West Brom took advantage of a 10-man Stoke by netting the game-winning goal in the 90+3 minute courtesy of Jonny Evans.

Saturday’s loss snapped a five-game unbeaten run for the Potters, who remained 10th on the EPL table on 29 points. The win for West Brom allowed them to reach 26 points, and close in the top 10.

Stoke will return to action on Tuesday for the Capital One Cup Semi-Final first leg against Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium, but not before the Hughes and his staff make a decision whether to appeal Cameron’s red card.

“We’ll have a look at that tomorrow and decide whether or not to appeal,” Hughes said, “but I think it’s likely.”
