Revs Academy Duo Set for U.S. U-17 Residency

The Revolution Youth Academy midfielder Isaac Angking and defender Tyler Freitas, who were called up by the U.S. U-17s earlier this month for the 2016 Aegean Cup in Turkey, will join the the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla. for the spring semester.

Angking, 15, and Freitas, 15, are two of 32 players nationally who will train and study under the direction of current U.S. U-17 coach and former Philadelphia Union manager John Hackworth.

“This is a special opportunity for both Isaac and Tyler and a big step in their development,” Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales said in a club release. “They have both worked very hard to receive this invitation and we know that they will represent their families and the New England Revolution with the utmost professionalism as they begin preparations for the next Under-17 World Cup.”

Angking, who has two goals and three assists for the Revolution U-18s this season, had previously been called into U.S. Soccer youth programs at the U-14 and U-15 levels. In 70 career games with the Revolution Academy, he’s collected 17 goals and 17 assists. He is a product of the Providence-based Bayside FC program.

Freitas has played in 13 games with the Revolution U-16s and three games with the U-18s during the 2015-16 season, tallying an assist for each side. In his debut season for the Academy in 2014-15, the North Attleborough, Mass. native scored three goals while adding an assist across 34 games for the U-14s and U-16s.
