It’s been quite a roller coaster ride for Sporting Clube de Portugal supporters over the last seven days. Last week, Sporting fell to second in the standings after seeing their lead over Benfica disappear following a 0-0 draw with Rio Ave.

But after Benfica dropped a rare home loss to Porto 2-1 in the much-anticipated Classico, Sporting capitalized by going away to Nacional de Madeira and crushing them 4-0. A game that saw two penalty kicks called and converted for Sporting, Islam Slimani continuing his goal scoring streak with two goals, Joao Mario, and captain Adrian both adding to the final score. With this result, Sporting has restored their lead by three points over Benfica for first place

2. Benfica 52 points
3. Porto 49 points

The B side:

Sporting B found their winning ways over the weekend with a convincing 3-0 win over Oriental. The star of the game was Matheus Pereira, scoring two goals, along with a goal from defender Domingos Duarte.

Matheus Pereira has seen some time with the senior squad this season in the Portuguese Liaa, Europa League, and Portuguese Cup. All told, Pereira has appeared in 24 games and scored 10 goals between the first and second teams. The 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder is one of the stars of tomorrow Sporting fans hope to see get more minutes with the senior squad and have a real impact.
