A season after he led Icelandic side KF Aegir in scoring, former Western Mass Pioneers striker Will Daniels made the jump to the 1st division by signing a deal with Icelandic first division club Grindavik on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Quinnipiac University alum, who scored 12 goals in 17 games for Aegir in 2015 to help it avoid relegation, joins Grindavik ahead of its 2016 campaign, which kicks off on May 6.

“Every year is a new journey, but the goal stays the same,” Daniels posted on Facebook on Wednesday. “Excited that I have decided to sign with Grindavik of the Icelandic 1st Division. Can’t wait to see where the journey will take me. Dream, believe, achieve – hard work always pays off.”

Grindavik finished sixth on the first division table with 36 points last year.

Daniels originally landed in Iceland prior to the 2015 season. After battling a knee injury during the early part of the schedule, the former Pioneers striker went on a scoring spree that included a hat trick against Njardvik and braces against Huginn and Sindri.

Prior to his Icelandic adventure, Daniels scored five goals and collected two assists in 13 games for the Pioneers during the 2014 PDL season. He went on to score seven goals in 10 games for Western Mass Pro Soccer during the 2014-15 ASL campaign.

Daniels is the second local product to play professionally in Iceland in recent years. Providence College alum Andrew Sousa, who was drafted by the Revolution in 2011, suited up for Fylkir in 2014, a season in which he scored five goals in 15 games.
