A late goal from Florida State’s Megan Connolly sunk the Boston Breakers in Friday’s 1-0 preseason loss at Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.

Connolly broke a scoreless match in the 80th minute when she grabbed a pass from Ari Hudson and beat goalkeeper Jami Kranich to seal the victory for the Seminoles.

Similar to Sunday’s match against Northeastern University, the FSU-Breakers contest was divided into three halves in order to give coach Matt Beard a better opportunity to evaluate his new-look squad.

“I was pleased with the performance. We did everything but score tonight,” Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said in a club release. “I felt some of the things we worked on in training are starting to come off.”

The Breakers’ best opportunity to find paydirt came in the 59th minute. Stephanie McCaffrey chipped a ball that seemed destined goal before Hudson headed it off the line.

“We’re still learning each other’s triggers and understanding certain things, but we haven’t had a lot of time to do stuff in the final third,” Beard said. “It was a great workout for us because they were an organized side.”

Beard’s side will return to action on Wednesday against the U16/17 Florida Elite Soccer Academy team at Flager College in St. Augustine, Fla.
