Revs add center back Otto Loewy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution today announced the signing of Liberian center back Otto Loewy. A product of Winthrop University (Rock Hill, SC.), Loewy is a U.S. permanent resident and will count as a domestic player on the Revolution roster.

The 23-year-old Loewy trained with the Revs throughout their preseason stint in Georgia and impressed enough to earn a contract. He saw time in training at both center back and right back for the Revs.

“Otto performed well during his trial with us in Georgia,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “He’s a strong player and will provide added depth along our backline this season.”

Loewy played four seasons at Winthrop and was named team MVP his junior and senior years in addition to earning all-Big South honors in each of his final three seasons with the school. He was invited to the 2009 MLS Combine, but could not participate due to a leg injury he suffered in Winthrop’s 3-1 NCAA tournament loss against William and Mary on November 11, 2008.

The 5’-10” Loewy played 80 games for Winthrop, including 79 starts, tallying five goals and 11 assists. He will wear number four for the Revolution and is expected to join the team following the Revs return to Foxborough after playing expansion side Vancouver on the road Wednesday.
