Revolution midfielder/defender Donnie Smith went the full 90 for USL affiliate Rochester Rhinos on Saturday to help them claim a season-opening 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh RiverHounds at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Smith, who was loaned to the Rhinos following Friday’s 1-0 Revolution win over the Red Bulls, started at left back on Saturday in a game that also featured former Revolution winger Zak Boggs, who got the starting striker’s assignment for the RiverHounds.

Saturday’s match marked Smith’s first appearance for the USL side since 2014. The 25-year-old versatile reserve is expected to return to Foxborough for training at the start of next week.

The 2013 second-round pick, whose last MLS minutes came in Matchweek 2 in 2014 at Philadelphia, has only played in two league contests. His last appearance for the Revolution came during their fourth-round U.S. Open Cup clash against Charlotte Independence, a game in which he featured at center back.

Most recently, Smith collected 151 minutes across four preseason games for the Revolution this past winter. He notched an assist against Houston during a 2-1 Desert Diamond Cup tournament victory on Feb. 24.
