Kendall-A-1

Bay State Soccer League side Kendall Wanderers A will continue its chase for Werner Fricker USASA Open Cup glory after beating Connecticut state champion FSA Inter 1-0 during the first round of the Region I bracket on Sunday in Farmington, Ct.

Robbie Sabadoz scored the lone goal of the game for the Massachusetts state champion in the 70th minute while goalkeeper Evan Weagle made four saves to keep the sheet clean.

With the victory, Wanderers advance to the Region I semifinal where they’ll face N.J.-based FC Motown (NJ) on May 15.

The Region I Finals will be played in June at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham, Pa. The winner will represent Region I at the Cup Final hosted by one of the two finalists in July.

In 1999, USASA established the Werner Fricker USASA Open Cup to recognize the champion among its own participants. The Cup continues through the efforts of Region I and Region II with the hope that the other regions will enter in the future.
