Report: Lekic signs with Revs

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – According to a report from The Boston Globe, 29-year-old Silkeborg striker Rajko Lekic, who was on trial with the Revolution two weeks ago, will join the Revolution upon the approval of a work visa.

The report, which cites a team source, stated that Lekic has already signed with the league. Pending the approval of his work visa, the Danish-Montenegrin footballer will join a squad that has lacked a true #9 center-forward since Taylor Twellman’s career was abruptly cut short due to concussion-related injuries.

In 96 career games with Silkeborg over two separate stints (2003-04, 2008-11), Lekic has scored a spectacular 69 goals. It is unclear whether he will be named the club’s first designated player, although his acquisition from Silkeborg indicates that he will likely be paid a princely sum to play for the Revs.

In light of the fact that there are currently no available international spots on the Revolution roster, the arrival of Lekic will likely force New England to find a trading partner to obtain one or will usher the release of a current international player.
