Renowned scorer Alencar Junior tallied in his Seacoast United Phantoms debut, giving his squad a 1-1 comeback draw against the Western Mass Pioneers in Saturday’s season opener at Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, N.H.

Junior, who played for the Pioneers from 2013-14, scored a 75th minute equalizer to rescue a point for the hosts. Chris Roswess opened the scoring in the 55th minute by converting on a Maxi Vieira pass.

“I’m happy with the result,” Pioneers head coach Federico Molinari said in a club release following the match. “I see improvements that we need, but to get a point at a tough opponent is critical.”

Junior nearly netted the game-winner in the 85th minute when he smacked a shot off the bar.

With the draw, the Phantoms (0-0-1) and Pioneers (0-0-1) each earned their first point of the PDL season.

The Phantoms return to action on Wednesday for a first-round U.S. Open Cup tie against Southie FC in Revere, Mass.

The Pioneers will be back on the pitch on Saturday, May 14 to face the Long Island Rough Riders in South Huntington, N.Y.
