PDL: Pioneers Stay in 1st Place w/ Win Over Boston

The Western Mass Pioneers retained their spot atop the Northeast Division after beating FC Boston 2-1 on Wednesday in a caution-filled contest at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass.

Pioneers midfielder Chae Brangman opened the scoring in the 28th minute while teammate Dan Fabian doubled the advantage in the 71st minute. Former Revolution midfielder Andy Dorman brought one back for Boston on an 85th minute penalty, but the Pioneers saw the game out to extend their unbeaten run to four (3-0-1).

A total of ten cautions were issued during Wednesday’s match, and Pioneers forward Carlos Ruiz was sent off in the 55th minute after receiving his second yellow card of the evening.

Western Mass goalkeeper Nick Zucco collected a game-high five saves to allow the shorthanded squad to earn its fourth win of the season.

With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 4-1-3 (15 points) while Boston fell to 3-3-0 (9 points).

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they face the Westchester Flames at City Park in New Rochelle, N.Y. FC Boston will be back on the pitch Saturday to take on FA Euro New York at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y.
