Revs Stumbles Continue in Loss to Crew SC

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – It was deja vu all over again as the New England Revolution surrendered an early goal and couldn’t claw back for the second straight week in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew SC at Gillette Stadium.
Ethan Finlay found early paydirt when he got on the end of a Justin Meram cross and converted to put the guests ahead inside of eight minutes. Federico Higuain stretched the lead in the 49th minute in the wake of a London Woodberry giveaway that fell to Ola Kamara, who dished it to the Crew SC playmaker to set up the score.
New England nearly filed an immediate reply to Higuain’s goal when Chris Tierney ripped a long-distance shot that forced Steve Clark to make a lunging save at the right stick to deny in the 51st minute.
Former Crew striker Kei Kamara nearly put the Revolution on the board in the 74th minute when he headed a shot on frame that was quickly cleared off the line by ex-New England center back Michael Parkhurst.
The Revolution will hit the road for the first of two straight away from Gillette Stadium on Wednesday at San Jose for their lone regular season meeting against the Earthquakes. Kickoff is set for 10:30pm ET. Last year, the Revolution pocketed a 2-1 win against their fellow MLS Original.
