#NERevs Predictions: Where Will They Finish?

Welcome to the fourth of a five-part series of Revolution-related predictions for the upcoming season. Yesterday, we gave our take on whether 2017 will be a make-or-break season for coach Jay Heaps and general manager Michael Burns. Today, our writers weigh in on where the team will finish in the Eastern Conference this year.

By the way, we want your take, too! Feel free to leave your vote in the comments section!

Sean Donahue: I could see legitimate cases being made for the Revolution to finish anywhere from third through ninth this season – that’s just how wide open/how many unknowns there are in the East this season. Best case scenario, if everyone stays healthy and Delamea, Angoua and Kouassi live up to their billing, this team could be in the hunt for a spot in the top 3. More realistically, I think this club is a borderline playoff team that will make it in as the sixth seed, due in part to the necessary adjustment period for the three new additions in key spots down the middle.

Greg Johnstone: I’m very glass half full on this team. The Revolution have too much talent to be a 7th seed in the East with a -10 goal differential. They also have too many weapons to score only 44 goals. Even with the disappointment last season, they finished the year 4 points from a respectable fourth-place finish and they are much improved from last season. I see a third-place finish.

Brian O’Connell: The Revolution may have re-loaded at key spots (center back, defensive midfielder, and goalkeeper), but I have a hard time believing those moves alone will put them over the red line once Oct. 22 rolls around. They may score plenty of goals, but I don’t see them defending well enough to become a legitimate contender. Unless they make another Jermaine Jones-caliber move during the summer, I’m picking them to finish exactly where they left off last year: seventh.
