U.S. Survives to Secure Draw

Clint Dempsey scored for the second straight game to help the United States secure a 1-1 draw to Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Tuesday’s World Cup Qualifier.

Dempsey tallied in the 39th minute when he converted a pass set up by Christian Pusilic, who fought off two defenders in the build up.

But any hopes of taking the lead into the break was disrupted by a 42nd minute Gabriel Gomez goal.

Pulisic nearly put the guests back on top in the 51st minute when he volleyed a Jorge Villafana cross goalward before it was acrobatically denied by goalkeeper Jaime Penedo.

Tim Howard made a strong save himself in the 59th minute when he denied a point-blank hit from Luis Tejada.

Attleboro, Mass. native Geoff Cameron did not see action due to a quad strain suffered in Friday’s Qualifier vs. Honduras.

The U.S. will resume Qualifying on Jun. 8 at home against Trinidad & Tobago at a venue to be determined.
