The Revolution welcomed back a familiar face on Monday by acquiring midfielder Gershon Koffie on loan from Swedish side Hammarby IF.

Koffie played in 22 matches for the Revolution last season and collected a career-best four assists before his contract expired in the offseason. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder is set to join the Revolution for the remainder of the 2017 MLS season, and will be added to the roster upon the receipt of his P-1 Visa.

“Gershon had success with us last season and we feel fortunate we were able to reacquire him,” said Revolution General Manger Michael Burns in a club release. “We look forward to having him back for the remainder of 2017 and expect he’ll be able to come in and make an immediate impact.”

It is unclear what role Koffie will assume during his encore. He was initially acquired last winter in the wake of defensive midfielder Xavier Kouassi’s season-ending ACL injury. With Kouassi now healthy, Koffie may be asked to play closer to goal.

The addition of Koffie brings the Revolution roster to 24 players.
