Reigning NPSL Golden Boot winner Isaac Addai tallied thrice for Boston City FC in Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Rhode Island Reds FC at Brother Gilbert Stadium in Malden, Mass.

Addai, who scored 16 goals for Reds FC last year, put a pair through from the spot in the 27th and 34th minutes then added another from the run of play in the 84th minute. Rhode Island opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Ronaldinho Diniz, then added two more from Fabrice Dogbey and Fernando Baptista in the 20th and 76th minutes, respectively.

“It was great to score a hat-trick against my former team, but we wanted the win,” Addai told the media after the match. “I want to play like this and score this against whoever we are playing. But I’m pleased to have scored my first goals for Boston City.”

Saturday’s match came only three days after Wednesday’s extra-time thriller against the Western Mass Pioneers in U.S. Open Cup play, a game in which the Lions prevailed on penalties to advance to the second round of the tournament.

With the draw, Boston City went to five points (1-0-2) while Rhode Island clinched its first point of the season (0-0-1).

The Lions return to action on Wednesday for U.S. Open Cup second round action against BSSL’s GPS Omens at Della Russo Stadium in Revere, Mass. They’ll resume league action on May 27 against Seacoast United Mariners. The Reds resume play on Friday against Seacoast United Mariners at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Me.
