Player Ratings: New England Revolution vs. Toronto FC

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue and Brian O’Connell contributed ratings for the Revs 0-0 draw with Toronto.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 7 (Brian 7, Sean 7)
Toronto’s low-octane attack didn’t require much work, but he commanded his area well. Rock of the defense. (Brian) … Made some good saves when called upon and organized the defense well. (Sean)

Darrius Barnes – Average Rating: 6.5 (Brian 7, Sean 6)
Another solid performance from the converted wingback. Looked confident all night. (Brian) … Surprisingly active getting forward from the left back spot, but unsurprisingly didn’t always seem to know what to do when he got there. Defended well. (Sean)

Ryan Cochrane – Average Rating: 4.75 (Brian 4.5, Sean 5)
Wasn’t tested often, but on the occasions that he was, he looked slow and indecisive. (Brian) … A shaky moment early, but play was OK for most of the game. (Sean)

A.J. Soares – Average Rating: 6.25 (Brian 6.5, Sean 6)
Kept up with Joao Plata, limited the few chances Toronto mustered, and good in transition. (Brian) … Solid defending all night and had a few interesting runs forward. (Sean)

Kevin Alston – Average Rating: 6 (Brian 6.5, Sean 5.5)
Made good runs into the attacking third without becoming liability in the back. Nice cross to Lekic in 58th should’ve put the Revs up. (Brian) … Had one nice cross to Lekic, but otherwise was ineffective in the final third on his many forays forward. (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating; 6.5 (Brian 6.5, Sean 6.5)
Sharp on set pieces and good from the run of play; took advantage TFC’s weak defending making numerous forays into the attacking third. (Brian) … Again the Revs most consistent player in delivering service into the box. (Sean)

Pat Phelan – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 5, Sean 5)
Stubborn on set pieces, but reckless defending could’ve warranted a second yellow late. In other words, it was a typical Pat Phelan performance. (Brian) … Worked hard throughout the field, but needs to be smarter with his tackles. (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average Rating: 6 (Brian 6.5, Sean 5.5)
Distribution was good, linked well with the wings, but he had to do better on the pair of wide-open shots that failed to get through. (Brian) … A couple of passes were a bit off and tried to dribble out of some dangerous situations, but distribution was generally strong. (Sean)

Zak Boggs – Average Rating: 4.25 (Brian 4.5, Sean 4)
Touch continues to plague him; least effective midfielder, even though he was given space to roam. (Brian) … Rarely a factor before being pulled at halftime. (Sean)

Kenny Mansally – Average Rating: 6.25 (Brian 6, Sean 6.5)
Welcome addition up top; service was surprisingly good, the effort was evident, and his ball to Lekic should’ve been an assist. (Brian) … Excellent hustle forced multiple turnovers in the Toronto defense. Unlucky not to have at least one assist on the night. (Sean)

Rajko Lekic – Average Rating: 1.75 (Brian 1.5, Sean 2)
On the basis that he’s paid to score goals and let three tailor-made opportunities pass him by amid an indifferent defense, this was the worst performance from a Revs striker in recent years. Maybe ever. (Brian) … Dreadful performance. Touch was poor all game and argued with teammates after blowing some great chances. (Sean)

(sub) Sainey Nyassi – Average: 5.75 (Brian 5.5, Sean 6)
Gave the Revs life on the right, passes were on point, and looked dangerous near the net. (Brian) … Provided a spark off the bench and made smarter decisions in the final third than in recent games. (Sean)

(sub) Zack Schilawski – Average Rating: 5.75 (Brian 5.5, Sean 6)
Provided good support to his teammates, sent a few smart balls, and showed his vision on the ball before Joseph’s last gasp shot. (Brian) … Put in the effort you hope for from a late sub. Made an important play on defense tracking back when the Revs were caught on a counter attack and provided a good target up top. (Sean)

(sub)Franco Coria – Average Rating: 4.25 (Brian 4, Sean 4.5)
Looked rusty, but wasn’t exposed; escaped without recording a foul. (Brian) … Didn’t have much to do, but was a bit reckless with a late push in the Revs’ box. (Sean)
