Player Ratings: New England Revolution at FC Dallas

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of the Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10 perfection). This week Brian O’Connell, Julian Cardillo and Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the Revs’ 2-2 draw against FC Dallas.

Matt Reis – Average Rating: 6 (Brian 6, Julian 6, Sean 6)
Sweet ball to Perovic on the Stolica goal. Nothing he could do about the defensive breakdown that unfolded in front of him during the final ten minutes. (Brian) … Not much he could do on those goals. He’s aging and he isn’t expected to stop penalty kicks like he once could. Good positioning most of the night. (Julian) … A couple of good saves, defense was at fault for both goals. (Sean)

Chris Tierney – Average Rating: 6.5 (Brian 6, Julian 7, Sean 6.5)
Had a surprising showing at left back, playing well at the back and on the attack. (Brian) … Great assist on Joseph and did well tracking back (Julian) … Looked like he would be beat for speed a few times, but did well defensively and provided a great assist on Joseph’s goal. Impressive runs forward. (Sean)

Cory Gibbs – Average Rating: 5 (Brian 4, Julian 6.5, Sean 4.5)
Soft defending continues to hamper the veteran, looked slow again in the center. (Brian) … One of his best games this season. Could have been a bit better in second half but his position was spot on most of the match. (Julian) … Lucky to have avoided a red card, not very smart play for such an experience veteran. (Sean)

Darrius Barnes – Average Rating: 4 (Brian 4, Julian 4, Sean 4)
Played pretty well before the unnecessary takedown on Ferreira in the 79th. Faded late. (Brian) … Good first half but very ill disciplined in second half. drew a stupid penalty kick. (Julian) … Decent performance, until the unnecessary challenge that led to the penalty. Could’ve seen a second yellow. Needs to play smarter closing out games. (Sean)

Kevin Alston – Average Rating: 5.33 (Brian 4, Julian 7, Sean 5)
Continues to nibble around the attacking third, but was burned a few times in the second half. (Brian) … Great job defending and joining in attack (Julian) … Didn’t provide much going forward and was slow to track back a few times. Used his physical ability well at times defensively. (Sean)

Kenny Mansally – Average Rating: 5.5 (Brian 5, Sean 6)
Added much needed pace to the left, leaving FCD off balance during the first half. Ferreira’s miss on the first penalty got him off the hook for the hard challenge inside the box. (Brian) …Provided pace and ability to beat a man that the Revs lack when Tierney at left mid. (Sean)

Pat Phelan – Average Rating: 4.5 (Brian 4, Julian 5, Sean 4.5)
Aided the midfield’s first half form, but caught out of position on Ferreira’s give and go to Avila prior to the equalizer. (Brian) … Did good job to keep ball moving and tracking back (Julian) … Phelan played well when the team was doing well in the first half, but continuously killed attacks and possession in the second half. (Sean)

Shalrie Joseph – Average Rating: 7.33 (Brian 7, Julian 7.5, Sean 7.5)

The catalyst of the attack. Distributed well, scored – looked like the Best XI center half we’ve come to know. (Brian) … Finally a goal and great job allowing midfield to move around (Julian) … One of his better games this season. Finally got a deserved goal. (Sean)

Sainey Nyassi – Average Rating: 6 (Brian 6, Sean 6)
The speedy winger was a force on the right. Easily his best game of the road trip. (Brian) … Used his pace to good effect against a very tough Heath Pearce and put in a solid performance (Sean)

Marko Perovic – Average Rating: 6.5 (Brian 6, Julian 7, Sean 6.5)
Cracked a solid free kick in the 4th, and played a beautiful ball to Stolica on the 2nd goal. Still tries to do too much (Brian) … Good job creating attacks and staying with play for assist (Julian) … Continues to cause defenders trouble. Great set-up on Stolica’s goal.(Sean)

Ilija Stolica – Average Rating: 6.33 (Brian 6, Julian 7, Sean 6)
Helped engineer the first goal, had a cool finish on the second one. (Brian) … Good goal but it was easy. Moved around well…should have had more chances (Julian) … Needs to see the ball more, but great finish and good contributions when he got involved. (Sean)

(Sub) Khano Smith – Average Rating: 2 (Brian 3, Julian 1, Sean 2)
Nothing more than a distraction, visibly upset when Stolica tried to offer advice.(Brian) … Created nothing, killed team chemistry in fight with stolica (Julian) … Brought on to defend, but didn’t do much of it. Looked out of the game after confrontation with Stolica. (Sean)

(Sub) Kheli Dube – Average Rating: 3.33 (Brian 4, Julian 3, Sean 3)
Nowhere to be seen for the second straight match. (Brian) … Did not see enough out of him…he’s not a natural at winger yet (Julian) … Has had one good game at right mid and been poor every other. Why would Nicol bring him into the midfield while trying to hold a lead? (Sean)

(Sub) Zack Schilawski NR
Worked hard up top in his few minutes as a sub. (Sean)
