Former New England Mutiny defender Kristin Shaw was appointed as the team’s newest general manager on Wednesday.

Shaw, who played for the Mutiny in 2007 and 2008, helped lead the team to the NSPL National Final in 2007. She currently coaches at Smith College (Massachusetts) women’s soccer team.

“I want to thank [Team Owner] Joe Ferrara for the opportunity to become the General Manager of the New England Mutiny,” said Shaw in a statement. “I am very excited to once again be apart of the Mutiny family. This is an incredible opportunity with an unbelievable organization. I could not be more excited to begin this journey. There is a definite standard for excellence here with the Mutiny, and I look forward to working with the entire staff to continue that tradition.”

The Mutiny will enter the 2012 season as one of eight teams competing in the new WPSL Elite League, which also features the Boston Breakers and Aztec MA (formerly Boston Aztec).

The 2012 Elite League season schedule has not yet been announced, although it is expected to start in May.
