Revolution wingback Kevin Alston returned to the active roster on Monday just over three months after he was diagnosed with chronic\u00a0myelogenous leukemia (CML), a rare but treatable form of leukemia.<\/p>\n

Alston, who learned of the disease shortly\u00a0after coming off in the 88th minute of the Revolution’s\u00a0Mar. 30 match against FC Dallas, was placed on the disabled list on Apr. 8 to undergo treatment. He will be eligible for selection for Wednesday’s match against Colorado.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re very pleased for Kevin that his treatment has progressed and he\u2019s returned to the field,\u201d Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a team release. \u201cFrom the outset, Kevin was committed to getting back and has maintained an incredibly positive attitude.”<\/p>\n

According to the National Cancer Institute, CML\u00a0is a disease in which the bone marrow makes too many white blood cells. Symptoms of CML include tiredness, night sweats, and fever.<\/p>\n

Despite taking a leave of absence, Alston was often seen in the Revolution locker room chatting with teammates throughout his recovery. He returned to training earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Alston has started 116 career games in MLS – all with the Revolution – after he was drafted in the first round of the 2009 SuperDraft. He was named to the 2010 MLS All-Star roster along with then-teammate Shalrie Joseph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
