Former Boston Breakers goalkeeper Ashley Phillips was named assistant coach of the same squad she starred for in 2013 and 2010, per a club release on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Phillips, who\u00a0originally joined the Breakers\u00a0during their 2010 WPS campaign,\u00a0returned to the team in 2013. \u00a0She posted a 2-5-4 record with one shutout and a 1.82 goals against average in 11 games with the Breakers last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful to the Boston Breakers for giving me this opportunity, and I am excited to work with this coaching staff,\u201d Phillips said in a club release. \u201cI am lucky to be able to grow as a coach under someone like Tom (Durkin) while working with a great goalkeeping group. I look forward to the upcoming season and to continue to have a role in this organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old native of Peabody, Mass. has also served as assistant coach at Northeastern University since 2010. Last month, the Huskies reached the NCAA Tournament after beating top seed James Madison in the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association championship.<\/p>\n

Phillips is the second player from the 2013 Breakers team to accept a coaching position during the offseason. Defender Cat Whitehill, who was named interim coach after Lisa Cole resigned midway through the season, was brought back as an assistant after Durkin was hired as head coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to have strengthened our coaching staff by adding Ashley,\u201d Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said in a club release. \u201cShe has experience as a player and as a coach, and she is someone who knows the league, players, and the college game very well. She will be a big asset for us, working as a goalkeeper coach, but also as an additional assistant alongside Tom and Cat (Whitehill).
